About the blog

How we write and check articles

The blog is written by the team behind EmoAtlas, a mood and emotion journal. In short: where our facts come from, who checks the articles and how we fix mistakes.

Sources

We rely only on scientific and official sources: peer-reviewed papers (with a DOI or on PubMed), WHO and ICD-11 documents, and health-agency materials. We don’t cite commercial sites, media, blogs or aggregators. Each article lists its sources at the end; every link is opened and its title and year checked before publishing.

Expert review

A reviewed article shows a “Reviewed by” note under the headline with the reviewer’s name and the review date, and a short card about the reviewer at the end. We add the note only after the reviewer has confirmed they read the article. If there is no note, the article has not been reviewed by an expert yet.

Dates and updates

Every article shows two dates under the headline: when it was published and when it was last meaningfully changed. Facts that go stale — helpline numbers, study figures, app details — are checked against the original source regularly; when a value changes, the “Updated” date moves too.

Corrections

At the bottom of every article there is a “Spotted a mistake?” button. Messages go to the author and are never published. We check each one against the sources; if the mistake is confirmed, we fix the text and update the date.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t diagnose or prescribe. Articles are for general information and are not a substitute for advice from a therapist or doctor.
  • Self-checks and quizzes in articles are a prompt to look closer, not a diagnosis.
  • There is no paid placement or third-party advertising in our articles. The blog is run by the app’s team, so articles link to the EmoAtlas journal.

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, in the US call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911 in an emergency. Outside the US, contact your local emergency number.
